I cut my binding at 2 1 4 inches wide unless i am using a heavy backing like minky.

Simple shapes are very easy and quick to applique using cuddle.
I used it for a quilt for my gd.
The only thing i do differently when backing a quilt with minky instead of regular cotton is to make sure i cut wide enough strips 2 5 usually and test to make sure there is enough binding to fully cover the initial stitch line.
For this quilt i did the classic hand sewn binding method that my grandma taught me.
Once you are at the point that you are ready to bind a quilt that is backed in minky or cuddle trim the excess of leaving about 1 of backing and batting.
Trim the cotton until there is 1 extra around all sides of the minky.
If the naps are running opposite there will be a noticeable difference in color and sheen.
When binding a quilt with minky you will want to have a thicker binding than you would with a cotton binding because of the extra bulk.
Make sure your back is cut square.
A touch from the iron helps here to set the crease.
Minky does not ravel so you only have to sew over one layer of fabric not bulky at all.

This is a great way to use up scraps of minky fabric.
Just fold over and sew.
After the corner has been stitched and trimmed kelly shows how to complete the mitered corner by simply folding the minky towards the wrong side.
Sew cotton and minky wrong sides together using a 1 4 seam and be sure to pin well so the layers don t shift.
I used elmers school glue instead of pins and used a serpentine stitch.
Then i stitch the binding on the front of quilt and wrap around the edge to the back and hand stitch the back.
Then i cut it 2 1 2 inches wide.
In fabrics with a pile such as velvet and minky the fibers lay tilted in one direction.
It still takes a little bit longer to bind than a quilt backed in cotton or flannel but it is worth the extra expense to save yourself grief in the binding process.
I stitch the strips together and press in half lengthwise.
When you sew two pieces of minky together be sure that the fibers are lined up in the same direction.
Use your quilt backing as the binding.
For the binding i wrapped the backing to the front of the quilt and mitered the corners.
